About Us
Maryland Community Health System (MCHS) is a limited partnership formed in 1996 by eight Community Health Centers located throughout the state of Maryland. Community Health Centers are "safety net" providers for the medically underserved and uninsured in their communities. MCHS was formed to assist its limited partner community health centers to better serve eligible patients under "HealthChoice", Maryland's Mandatory Managed Care Medicaid Reform.
MCHS is a co-owner, with Johns Hopkins HealthCare, of Priority Partners Managed Care Organization. Through its membership on the Board of Directors of Priority Partners, MCHS leaders bring the perspective of community-based primary care providers and their patients to the decision-making process of a managed care organization. MCHS leadership and staff serve on all Committees of the Priority Partners Board of Directors.
MCHS' goal in all its activities has been to assure that the special needs of patients at participating health centers throughout the State of Maryland are recognized, and that the patient care and financial resources required to serve them are present.
